The Corpus Christi Apocalypse -- Corpus Apocalypse -- L'Apocalypse de Cambridge. MS20; Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, Lucerne, Quaternio, 2012. 144 pages 121 large-format miniatures on almost all pages, richly decorated with old and silver, 59 gold initials, 280 blue initials on red fleonnée, as well as gold, silver and red lead, fine chasing adorn the luxuriously decorated manuscript. Origin: between 1340 and 1350 in London, created by one or two unknown masters. The client was John de Cobham or his father Henry, a high-ranking official in the service of the English king, who was one of the leading families in the southeast of England. The luminosity of their vibrant colours is further enhanced by the shiny polished silver and gold sections, embellished with intricate patterns of dots and finely cut lines. The manuscript is also unique in terms of content - in addition to the Revelation of John, it contains a wonderfully illustrated version of Paul's visions and an Anglo-Norman coronation order, which was used for the coronation of Edward II in 1308. The compilation of the three texts mentioned into a single codex is unique. The Corpus Christi Apocalypse is the most richly decorated English apocalypse manuscript of the 14th century.
