Grevel & Co., [c.1880] A Victorian mechanical "speaking" picture book employing a pull-cord mechanism to reproduce animal and infant sounds-an early and innovative example of sound technology in children's publishing. Chromolithographed illustrations with accompanying verses depict The Cock, The Donkey, The Lamb, The Birds, The Cow, The Cuckoo, The Goat, and The Baby. Instructions at front explain operation: cords pulled beneath each image activate the corresponding sound. Measurements: approx. 9.5 × 12.75 × 2.25 in.
